How to read it
Geomagnetic storms today and now: what the Kp-index shows
A geomagnetic storm is a disturbance of Earth’s magnetic field under a stream of particles from the Sun. Its strength is measured by the Kp-index on a 0-to-9 scale and mirrored by NOAA’s “storm” scale from G1 to G5: below Kp 4 is calm, Kp 5 is a minor storm (G1), Kp 8–9 is extreme (G4–G5). “Today” and “now” are not the same: the geomagnetic situation shifts through the day and depends on your latitude, so we compute it for your city’s coordinates rather than a national average.
Honestly, without scaremongering: there is no robust scientific link between geomagnetic storms and a healthy person’s wellbeing — the evidence is weak and conflicting. So we show real numbers, not diagnoses: if you feel off, the cause is more often inside the body than in the sky — and that can be checked objectively.

UV index

Polluted air, pollen and ultraviolet — proven effects
Fine PM2.5 particles hit breathing and blood vessels, pollen causes hay fever, high UV burns skin and damages eyes. If you are looking for the real “weather effect on wellbeing” — it is here, not in geomagnetic storms.
Pressure swings — moderate evidence
Sharp changes in atmospheric pressure are linked to migraine and joint pain in some people. “Low pressure outside” by itself is not a verdict; what matters is the rate of change.
Geomagnetic storms — weak, conflicting data
Some studies note a link with wellbeing and the cardiovascular system, but data quality is low and any effect in a healthy person is small. Blaming a bad day on a storm alone is almost always a mistake.
Moon phase and astrology — no evidence
A Moon-phase effect on sleep, blood pressure or behaviour is not confirmed in good studies. Interesting, but not medicine.

When there is no storm and pressure is steady yet you feel unwell, look for the cause in the body, not the sky. “Weather sensitivity” usually hides objective, testable things: low iron and ferritin, thyroid problems, B12 and vitamin D deficiency, unstable blood pressure. Labs reveal them.

Kp is a 0–9 scale of disturbance of Earth’s magnetic field. Up to 4 is calm; 5 and above is a geomagnetic storm (G1–G5 scales). The higher the Kp, the brighter the auroras and the more people talk about “magnetic storms.”
The data is weak and conflicting. Some work notes a link with headaches, blood pressure and sleep in sensitive people, but evidence quality is low, and in a healthy person any effect is small. Blaming poor wellbeing on a storm alone is usually wrong — the cause is more often in the body (iron, thyroid, blood pressure).
By the evidence, atmospheric pressure swings. Sharp changes are linked to migraine and joint pain more clearly than geomagnetic activity. That is why the page shows both pressure and its 24-hour trend.
Weather sensitivity is feeling worse when the weather changes. Part of it (reacting to pressure swings) is real; part is suggestion and coincidence. If the weather regularly makes you feel bad, it is sensible to check objective causes: iron/ferritin, thyroid, B12, vitamin D and blood pressure.
It depends on your latitude: the farther south, the stronger the storm must be. In polar regions auroras appear already at Kp 2–4, at mid-latitudes usually from Kp 7, in the south — almost never. The solar wind is a stream of charged particles from the Sun. When it speeds up and densifies after flares and coronal mass ejections, its impact on Earth’s magnetic field is what causes geomagnetic storms. We show the current speed and density from the DSCOVR satellite (NOAA). It does not act on people directly — it never reaches the surface.
